Axemen Come Back welcomed by ‘Home’ Crowd
It was now or never for the Solna Axemen. Winless in Season 2009, this was a must win encounter with the Bromma Vikings. The game was played in Bromma but you wouldn’t have guessed it with Solna Supporters outnumbering the Bromma supporters by 3:1 (literally).
With the official match start at 12 PM, one could sense that the Axemen were here to make sure that the reigning premiers are a force to be reckoned with this season. Before a single Bromma player was even in sight, the Axemen had enough players to start the match then and there.
Pete blows the whistle and we’re on our way. The Axemen are kicking with the wind and whilst they start of slow it is Solnas full forward Tjejhund kicks the first goal of the match. The general play is even, however, the Solna defence led by last years star half back Parker and Irishman Brendon are rebounding the ball of the backline beautifully to allow Solna a 2 goal break at Qtr Time.
Kicking against the wind, Solna new the second qtr would require some tight checking and accurate kicking. Summer practice seemingly pays off when they allow Bromma only 1 goal kicking with the wind and picking up a couple themselves thanks to Brendons continuous running from the backline and some beautiful passes hitting targets up forward.
The Premierships Quarter sees the Axemen midfield dominate in the early stages with Brother of Kent and Ted picking up plenty of the ball some hard tackling combined with inaccurate kicking by Bromma due to the tight checking Solnas first year players Ole and Wil sees the Premiers 4 goals clear at the final break.
Bromma come out firing in the last quarter kicking the first 2 goals to cut the margin back to a couple of kicks, however with the time ticking on, the ball lands in the VB Cups stand out player – Brother of Ted, who slows the play down, calmly slots the sealer of the match and Solna are 10 point winners to the delight of the crowd.
