Axemen left wondering

The Axemen came out in numbers, but in the end were simply beat by a better opponent , with the Årsta Swans defeating the Axemen 37 points on Friday night.

In the first quarter the Axemen picked up where they left off last Friday night when they easily accounted for the Södermalm Blues. Joel was leading and kicking goals, Danne was dominant in the ruck and the Swans had no answers. Qtr-time and the Axemen find themselves up 3.2 to 1.4 . Unfortunately for the Axemen that’s when their goalscoring dried up. Kicking with the breeze, the Swans kicked 1.5 to 0.0 in the second quarter to level the scores and go into the halftime break with the momentum.

With such wasteful kicking, Solna took the lead into the half tme break, but not even this could motivate the boys from the North today. In the second half, the Swans piled on 8 goals to 1, with their halfback line doing a brilliant job on Solnas forwards, rebounding continuously and setting up their forwards with accurate kicking. Solna were run of their legs and all the team work that had won them their previous two matches went missing.

In the other match, Bromma Vikings upset the Södermalm Blues by 11 points and handing Södermalm their second defeat in as many rounds and consequently closing the gap between 1st and 2nd spots. After 7 rounds of footy, Södermalm are guaranteed a finals spot with 5 wins, Bromma is currently 2nd with 4 wins, Årsta 3rd with 3 wins and Solna 4th with 2 wins.

Whilst Solnas destiny is no longer purely in their hands, they can go a long way to grabbing 3rd spot and a place in the finals by defeating Söder this coming Saturday. Should Bromma defeat Årsta the night before, it will make for a season defining last round with the finals spot up for grabs!!

So heads up Axemen and usual: Train hard, play for each other and never forget: Have fun out there and yes, it’s more fun winning then losing!
