Snow blows.

Yes the hideous white stuff has finally lost it’s grip from our beloved training-ground. It is time to open your closet, put on your favorite pair of shorts and start polishing your shoes.

We train Mondays and Wednesdays from 18:30 at the “University Back Field“. If your intrested in playing with us come down or send us an e-mail.

You can find a proper road description under “maps” and if you walk from the subway look for a tall freaky guy with german accent who can’t kick!

Almooooost theeere….

YES YES YES !! Not long now until season 2010 finally starts! The mighty Axemen are waking up from their “Swedish-Winter-Hibernation” and will soon start training again. The snow is almost gone and in a few weeks it will be full speed ahead under the new head coach Mark “Dad” Cameron.  A few of us Axemen are having an early start already this weekend as the National Team gathers for a big Training Camp down in Jönköping.

For those that care, some changes have been made to the board.

A Glorious Day for Swedish Footy

Söder Win Their First SAFF Flag

Saturday September 19th was a big day for Aussie Rules in Sweden.

In Stockholm, the SAFF Grand Final dished up a nailbiting end to the season for the second year in a row.

With the mighty Solna Axemen - Premiers in 2007 & 2008 and SM in 2008 & 2009 - unfortunately left cheering on from the sidelines, Bromma and Södermalm were left to battle it out in perfect, sunny conditions.

While the Vikings had plenty of chances to hand the Blues back-to-back Grand Final losses, their wayward kicking proved too costly in the end, with Jordo’s boys running out winners 9.9.63 to 6.20.56.

Axemen Come Back welcomed by ‘Home’ Crowd

It was now or never for the Solna Axemen. Winless in Season 2009, this was a must win encounter with the Bromma Vikings. The game was played in Bromma but you wouldn’t have guessed it with Solna Supporters outnumbering the Bromma supporters by 3:1 (literally).

Thanks to Nic Townsend from AFL Sweden for this report.

The Solna Axemen were the toast of Swedish football last Saturday, after winning the VB Cup for the second year in a row. In what proved to be an exceptionally entertaining tournament, Solna remained undefeated right throughout the competition, before triumphing over Stockholm rivals Södermalm in a hard fought Grand Final.

This year’s tournament was held in the town of Falun in the north of Sweden, and is only the second ever after last year’s inaugural VB Cup in Karlstad. This year’s tournament, which consists of 24 minute, 9-a-side matches between club sides from all over Sweden, was played out by seven teams: Falun, Södermalm, Solna, Bromma, Helsingborg, Port Malmö and Karlstad. In addition the competition also attracted some fringe players from Oslo, Göteborg and Östersund.
